Mumbai to Aurangabad Taxi

There are two routes to reach Aurangabad from Mumbai. The fastest and the shortest route is via NH160 and the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. This route is around 330 km and can be covered within 6 hours of time. 

Another Mumbai to Aurangabad route is 428 km long. It goes through NH60 and Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. It will take you around 7 and half hours to cover this distance. 

The longest route from Mumbai to Aurangabad takes about 8 hours of time, even though it is 390 km in distance. It is via Bengaluru – Mumbai Highway,  Mumbai – Pune Highway- Satara Highway later via NH 753F. 

On the Mumbai to Aurangabad route, you will cross cities like Shirdi, Nashik, and Navi Mumbai, each offering many interesting places which are worth stopping and exploring. 

Navi Mumbai

Adjacent to the city of Mumbai, it boasts of several amazing tourist attractions. Elephanta Caves, Pandavkada WaterFalls, Central Park Kharghar, D Y Patil Sports Stadium, Bawkhaleshwar Temple, Nerul Balaji Temple, Belapur Fort and Karnala Bird Sanctuary are a few places you can explore on your way to Aurangabad. 

Nashik

Before entering Aurangabad, you can stop at the ancient city of Nashik. Linked with Hindu religious text Ramayana, Nashik is home to many ancient temples and monuments like Saptashrungi Devi Temple, Ramkund Panchavati, Shri Kalaram Sansthan Mandir, Sita Guffa/ Sita Caves, Dhudsagar falls, Saptashrungi, etc. It is also the wine capital of India, so if interested you can go for a quick wine tasting tour at Sula Vineyards as well.  

Shirdi

On your way, you can also take a break and get down at Shirdi. It is a renowned religious town, with devotees from all over the country, visiting the Sai Baba Temple complex every day. Other places to visit in Shirdi are Samadhi Mandir, Dwarkamai, Gurusthan, Lendi Baug, Chavadi and Dixit Wada Museum. 

It is better to have a few extra hours for the road trip by private taxi from Mumbai Drive as there are many other must-visit stops on the Mumbai to Aurangabad route as well. Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Shri Siddhi Vinayak Ganapati Mandir, shrine of Haji Ali Dargah, Kanheri Caves, Sanjay Gandhi National Park are just a few of the places that you can visit as you drive out of the Mumbai city.

Ajanta Caves

The most popular attraction of Aurangabad is the Ajanta Caves. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a group of 30 rock-cut caves, associated with Buddhism. Their origin has been traced back to the 2nd Century BC. 

Ellora Caves

Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ellora caves or Verul Caves is a complex of rock-cut caves, dating back to the 6th Century. There are around 100 caves, out of which 34 are open to the public. The architectural marvel, and ancient history showcased in Ellora Caves are sure to leave you spellbound. 

Bibi Ka Maqbara

Another place to see in Aurangabad is the Bibi-Ka Maqbara. It was constructed in the memory of Rabia-Ul-Daurani alias Dilras Banu Begum who was the wife of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. It was built in 1661, in the same architectural design as that of Agra’s Taj Mahal. The resemblance between the two is noteworthy. 

Daulatabad Fort

Located 15 km away from the city centre, this fort was built in the 12th century. Standing at an altitude of 200 m above the sea level, this imposing Daulatabad Fort can be reached by climbing around 750 steps. Once at the fort, explore not only its exterior but also intricate interior designs, especially the sections – Chand Minar, Chini Mahal, and Baradari. 

Grishneshwar Temple

Located within the Ellora Caves, it is believed to be the last and the smallest of the 12 jyotirlingas in the country. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is a revered religious site. There are also sculptures and carvings of other Hindu deities. It was renovated in the 18th Century. 

Salim Ali Lake

For some time in nature, visit Salim Ali Lake. Surrounded with refreshing flora, the calm waters of the lake promises to fill your time with peace and tranquillity. Owing to the avian fauna here, it is also a popular site for birdwatching.
